In an ongoing effort to highlight the incredible individuals that form the backbone of Findings, I’m excited to bring you the story of Paul Gilbert, a valued member of our customer success team. Around the office, there are a few things everyone knows about Paul: he’s a social butterfly, he can’t help but shout when hit by a Nerf gun, and he’s got a soft spot for dogs, whether they’re tiny chihuahuas or hulking pit bulls. But let’s go beyond the surface. Join me in uncovering Paul’s journey – from his role in the company to his motivations and perspectives on compliance and security.

Paul’s Journey Here

Paul’s adventure with Findings began in August 2021, recently marking his three-year anniversary with the company. Joining initially as part of a two-person customer success team, Paul’s role centered around constructing a comprehensive knowledge base for our clients. His mission was clear: empower customers with materials like ‘how-to’ guides, enhancing their efficiency in utilizing our platform.

As the team grew, so did Paul’s responsibilities, culminating in a pivotal moment of growth—supervising an ISO 27001 audit. This milestone not only affirmed his expertise but also underlined the trust he had earned from his superiors. Paul’s journey reflects the spirit of growth and trust that defines Findings’ work environment.

Role Snapshot

Paul’s role is a multi-faceted one, encompassing various key areas:

• Crafting a robust knowledge base to facilitate effective platform utilization for clients.

• Developing assessment templates to ensure cybersecurity and ESG compliance within supply chains.

• Resolving client platform-related issues and managing accounts.

• Providing insights on multi-jurisdictional regulatory adherence for clients and prospects.

When it comes to keeping our clients compliant with the ever-evolving rulebook of regulations, Paul is our go-to guy. He even admitted:

“Before I started my job, I was not aware of any of the regulations or of the industry best practices that I am familiar with now; and nor did I appreciate the practical implications that these have on our day-to-day lives, including why one should implement 2-factor authentication for their phone, why companies should employ a policy of least privilege for access to their systems, and/or why the EU has put in place such rigorous ESG-related laws, such as Taxonomy.”

Beyond his work persona, Paul holds an intriguing hobby for writing—he even ran a film review blog for seven years! From 2010 to 2017, he crafted over 160 movie reviews, infusing them with humor and insight. This hidden talent sheds light on the multifaceted nature of our team members and adds a delightful layer of depth to his personality.

Source of Inspiration

Paul’s path to his current career was inspired by his history studies and subsequent experience in project management and compliance. His journey naturally led him to Findings, where simplifying compliance for customer-supplier relations became his mission. His story underscores the importance of aligning personal passions with professional pursuits.

Internal Inspiration

Paul’s role model and inspiration within the company is his manager, Jonny. With boundless dedication, Jonny possesses a deep understanding of the platform and an unshakeable willingness to guide and support the team. His leadership style and trust in Paul’s abilities have been instrumental in shaping Paul’s journey here. This relationship also showcases the strong bonds within our team.

Finding Motivation & Future Outlook

Paul’s work ethic is unwavering, driven by his focused and diligent nature. Regardless of the challenges that arise, Paul’s ability to maintain his motivation stems from his intrinsic dedication to his tasks and the company’s goals. When I asked Paul where he sees himself in five years, he smirked and said:

“Simply, I see myself staying in this role (please God).”

But really, envisioning his professional trajectory over the next five years, he hopes to accumulate a wealth of experience, contributing to the company’s growth. Paul aspires to deepen his understanding of industry regulations and trends, solidifying his role as an invaluable asset within the organization. Paul’s commitment and aspirations align perfectly with our company’s long-term goals.

Starting Advice

When I asked Paul what the best piece of advice he’d offer to someone who’s just beginning his/her career, he modestly refrained from considering himself a source of advice. He encourages newcomers to seek roles that leverage their strengths and to align with managers or companies that trust them. These foundational elements, he believes, are key to achieving job satisfaction and a fulfilling life. His advice echoes Findings’ commitment to creating a supportive and trust-driven work environment.
